Land, Planning and Development Federation (LPDF)

The LPDF are currently in a rainy Manchester at the Conservative Party Conference (CPC) making connections, influencing politicians and hosting an event alongside the Centre for Policy Studies on ‘Rethinking Green Belt’

There has certainly been a clear change in tone surrounding the Conference and a more positive message for our industry coming from the likes of Michael Gove MP and Rachel Maclean MP, the latter even embracing the Young Liberal’s slogan of ‘Just Build More Bloody Homes’.

The key takeaways so far have been:

  • The LURB will be enacted before the Kings Speech in November.
  • The Government will bring through stand alone legislation to resolve the Nutrient Neutrality issue as quickly as possible.
  • Reform of the planning system is needed and this will be facilitated by the enactment of LURB.
  • The Chancellor will announce measures, in his Autumn statement, to address some of the issues currently impacting housing supply with a particular emphasis on helping SMEs.
  • The Housing Minister has clearly been listening to the messages that the LPDF have been sharing with her over recent months as a number of those ideas have featured at her various appearances on discussion panels at the Conference.
