Securing consent for and delivering successful residential-led schemes remains challenging. Recent and future legislative changes are likely to make it even harder, including mandatory biodiversity net gain rules (due November 2023), ongoing controversy around the proposed removal of the requirement for nutrient neutrality, commitments to introduce the Future Homes Standard and demanding “net-zero” targets.

The acquisition, promotion, sale and use of land for new housing schemes is being severely impacted, hindering planning applications and slowing new houses of all types being brought to market.

With economic and political uncertainty having a direct impact on delivery, Shoosmiths and the Land, Planning and Development Federation (LPDF) are hosting a panel discussion event to explore these issues and discuss what land promoters and developers can do to manage these challenges and deliver new schemes that will support the delivery of sustainable housing and thriving new communities that are fit for the future.

The panel discussion will be chaired by LPDF Chairman, Paul Brocklehurst, with a panel comprising:

- Matt Nixon, Legal Director, Shoosmiths

- Alexa Culver, General Counsel, Environment Bank

- Josie Cadwallader-Hughes, Sustainability Director, Thakeham

- John Litton KC, Landmark Chambers

- Simon Thompson, Principal Adviser – Strategic Solutions Strategy and Government Advice, Natural England

The discussion will be followed by drinks and nibbles and is open to both LPDF members and non-members.
